Rotwild have leapt ahead of the competition again:  Building on their earlier successes for 2017 Rotwild have developed the ultimate 200mm GRAVITY eMTB with adjustable frame geometry enabling you to tune the R.G+ for the challenge ahead – reduce its steering head angle and move the rear wheel back for high speed stability, or decrease the head-stock angle and shorten the wheelbase to optimize handling for slower technical courses. The R.G+ can also accommodate fatter 27 Plus tyres for maximum traction.  Nothing else comes close.

Rotwild GRAVITY+ EVO

The Rotwild R.G+ EVO electric mountain bike has been designed for ultimate down hill performance, and thanks to the undisputed market leading 90Nm BROSE e-bike drive system  it will get you up the mountain quicker than anything else too! Building on the huge success of their 2014, ’15 and ’16 e-MTB models, for 2017 Rotwild have introduced a raft of new developments to complement their lightweight aluminium-carbon composite monocoque frame. The result is simply astonishing.

A downhill bike for everyone who like to bike without shuttles and lifts. The R.G+ comes with 27.5″ wheels and 200mm suspension and a 518Wh integrated power unit made from carbon with integrated shock absorber mounting. The BROSE drive system is 100% decoupled so unlike other eMTBs there’s zero motor drag when it powers down. The new XLS chassis is specially developed around the FOX X2 Air Shock to produce anti-squat characteristics when the full force of BROSE motor is in play. The Modular Steering Head (MSH) headset enables you to choose from 3 steering head angles so that the dynamic characteristics of the bike can be tuned to the ride ahead. The Multiple Dropout Inlay (MDI III) inserts enable you to optimise handling dynamics by altering the chain stay length. The R.G+ also has integrated cable routing for the  dropper seat post and can accommodate up to 27.5 x 2.6 tyres.

The Rotwild GRAVITY+ EVO is stronger – its uni-directional Carbon Fibre / 6066 T6 Alloy monocoque frame make for the most rigid e-bike frame in the world.

The most distinctive feature of the new Rotwild hybrid mountain bike is the Integrated Power Unit (IPU). This part of the bike combines the magnesium motor casing with the carbon composite battery pack to form a rigid structural element, connecting bottom bracket to head stock like they’ve never been connected before. This state-of-the-art engineering never usually gets beyond the perimeter fence of a McLaren or Williams Formula One R&D centre. It makes the Rotwild the stiffest electric mountain bike in the world; it won’t twist, buckle, or bend no matter how hard you’re riding it, no matter high you’re jumping it. Unbeatable.

Despite having lower power batteries, the R.G+’s nearest rivals are much heavier.

How have Rotwild achieved this feat? The secret is in engineering nous and use of the very latest materials and production technology: The IPU bottom tube battery housing is built up using multiple uni-directional pre-impregnated carbon fiber layers of precisely defined weights, each carefully orientated to follow the load-paths generated from the hardest riding. Thickness of the carbon bottom tube is varied throughout its section – not to thin, not too thick – but just the right number of layers to achieve the maximum possible rigidity and lowest possible weight.

The IPU is formed and bonded to other fame components using the high-precision ‘closed-mold’ process (other frame makers use inferior ‘open-mold’ or ‘vac-bag’ processes). This requires over 70 individual molds to make Rotwild’s three carbon/aluminium frame types. It works: these material and process choices have delivered successes on the toughest race courses, and demonstrated clear performance advantages at the pinnacle of international competitions. Trophies galore at the Olympics Games and victory in the XC World Championships attest to the capabilities of Rotwild bikes.

Aluminium elements of the frame are equally exceptional; formed from 6066 alloy heat treated to Condition T6, this aluminum alloy is stronger and lighter than the standard 7020 T6 used by most MTB makers. It’s improved characteristics are significantly higher tensile strength (around 30%), and much greater resistance against bending, compression, and shear loads (around 40% greater).

In short, if you choose a Rotwild R.G+ you won’t be sending your frame back to us in two years riddled with fatigue fractures (this is a big problem with other popular eMTBs), but even if you did, it’d be considerably cheaper to post than other electric mountain bikes!

 

A Revolution In Frame Geometry Control:

Variable steering angle provides the necessary front-end control and adjustable chain stay length give you everything you need to maximize traction.

Modular Headset (MHS I): variable head angles are achieved through individual headsets (0° and +/- 1,5°). This MHS has been developed entirely by ROTWILD in combination with the X frame and offers a variety of different configuration options to adapt the frame for optimal handling.

The MHS I headset has a semi-integrated design, i.e. the headset bearings are integrated in aluminium shells, which are pressed into the specially developed frame head tube at the factory. It is therefore possible to replace the headset parts or shells or change the configuration of the MHS  at any time.

The ball bearings we use are completely sealed, stainless steel 45° angular contact ball bearings to absorb the axial and radial forces that act in the headset section. Unlike most headsets available on the market, Rotwild’s MHS bearing shells and ball bearings are fully protected against the ingress of dirt from the outside by means of three seperate external seals.

Many serious off-roaders will own at least two bikes, one for tight technical work, another for higher speed work. Thanks to its adjustable frame geometry the 2017 R.G+ can do both jobs: The Rotwild R.G+ enables you to quickly adjust its chainstay length. Wheelbase adjustment occurs in the horizontal plane only, this means that important geometrical dimensions such as height of bottom bracket, seat post and head tube angle remain unchanged. This feature also enables wheel sizes of 27.5 and 27.5+ to be used, accommodating  tyres with a width of up to 2.8”.

Dynamic influences of chainstay lengths on ride :

Moving the rear axel to the forward position gives a very short chainstay length thus improving manoeuvrability, enabling more precise cornering, and making it easier to lift the front wheel overcome obstacles.

Moving the rear axle to the rearward position provides greater riding stability on fast descents and reduces the tendency of the front wheel to lift on steeper climbs. In this position the frame can take a tyre width of up to 2.8”.

For 2016 the Brose has new software giving more low-speed torque and smoother power delivery across all speed ranges. Its main ingredients are aluminum, magnesium, experience, enthusiasm and …helical epicyclic gears: in just designed in Germany, its made there too. 

Where other well known e-bike motors are built to a price point, the Brose 2.0 is designed and manufactured to a quality standard, incorporating precision engineered helical epicyclic gears. These are much more expensive to manufacture but offer dramatic performance and wear rate improvements over the cheaper spur gear tooth profiles that the completion use.

In the simplest terms spur gears transfer power from the driving gear to the driven gear via only one or two teeth at a time, whereas with helical gears power is transferred by three connecting teeth at a time. This results in less wear, less noise, less friction and a smaller and lighter drive unit.

Rotwild’s main rivals use either a Yamaha or Bosch motor – these are not only heavier and bulkier than the BROSE motor but are also considerably weaker: Torque for Bosch CX unit is 75Nm and for the Bosch Performance motor its only 60Nm. R.G+’s Power to Weight ratio is much greater than its closest rival.

Despite its small physical size the BROSE 2.0 produces a market leading 90 newton meters of torque. It does this quietly, reliably and without fuss. The company’s sensor concept is the only one of its kind on the market today: it measures rider pedal force no fewer than 420 times a second, delivering smooth, vibration free assistance. Production began in July 2014 and by August last year the Rotwild/Brose test team had covered 169’445 miles of Brose e-bike motor shaftarduous Alpine trails.

Brose Drive Technology is a division of the Brose Group, one of the most innovative and successful suppliers to the international automotive industry, employing some 22,000 employees – 2,500 of them engineers – at 57 locations in 23 countries around the world. Their annual turnover exceeds €5 billion. Last year Brose manufactured 100 million electric motors. They know what they’re doing.

Decades of experience specialising in mechatronic systems for the automotive sector mean they’re perfectly placed to produce this innovative e-bike drive unit. Development and production of the Brose e-bike motor is carried out entirely in-house at their Berlin engine plant, where a dedicated team of engineers design, build and test the system at their purpose built e-bike centre of excellence .

The Rotwild R.G+ EVO goes further than the rest –  at least 30% further than its nearest rival.

The Li-Ion battery is integrated into the carbon fibre bottom tube, ensuring the lowest possible centre of gravity, and at 518Wh the battery will drive you further than other electric MTB in it’s class. It’s not just me! Many of our Rotwild customers have had first hand experience of the Brose’s efficiency – of course the range between re-charges on a Rotwild is greater than any of its competitors because it has a higher capacity battery, but that does not explain how a Rotwild with 20% more power than its rivals can run flat out at Cannock Chase from 11am to 6pm, stopping only for a coffee in the morning and a single pint in the afternoon on one charge. Clearly, most of the range advantage is down to the efficiency of the Brose drive unit.

The 40 high-grade lithium-ion cells are divided into 5 packs of 8 cells each (4P10S). One single cell delivers a potential difference of 3.6 volts (range 4.2-3.6 volts) with a capacity of 3,500 mAh. The special feature of this Li-ion cell is the chemical structure on the inside, which has been specially designed for pedelec and automotive applications.

After your test ride, when everything has been fine-tuned to your liking and you are comfortable with your e-bike we will fit any accessories you may have ordered – or those you might already have – a favourite old saddle perhaps, a particular bell, or pair of trusted hand-me-down panniers.

Only when we are certain you are completely confident in your e-bike choice and understand how everything works will we leave you to enjoy your new found freedom.

Because few of us are at home during working hours these days, we offer the option of our personal home delivery service on Saturdays and Sundays, and evenings during the week.

Experience has taught us that regular preventative maintenance is much better than simply reacting to problems as and when they occur. By choosing our on-site service option you’ll have the peace of mind that potential problems are likely to be identified and dealt with before they arise, thereby helping ensure your e-bike is safe and in good working order.

In the unlikely event that an unexpected problem arises – for example a puncture or broken front light – simply call or email us to bring forward a scheduled service and we will visit and carry out repairs.
